Wonderbrass - A Brief History
Wonderbrass was formed in 1996, starting life as a quartet of Brass players linked with music groups
from East Herts Music Centre, who on their return from a tour of Florida wanted to break away and form a small group of their
own, and wanted to explore new boundaries of brass playing.
The band succeeded in doing so, and started performing locally, at fetes and Church events, all
the while, building their reputation.
Eventually, the quartet evolved into a quintet, with the addition of a Tuba, and the Wonderbrass
sound was born.
In its history the band has performed at some prestige engagements, notably St Edmunds College Summer
ball, and also supporting East Herts Concert Band on two tours of Germany, where they were warmly recieved.
Now in its eleventh year, the quintet has its strongest line-up of players ever, producing a unique
sound, unusual to a classical brass quintet, Wonderbrass uses two Trombones in preference to using a French Horn.
A busy concert schedule is testament to the groups growing reputation and ever expanding musical repertoire.
